Banned Books Week Bingo Update

So I just thought I would update my blog with how my Banned Books Week Bingo/Readathon has gone. You can't really tell by that picture but I do have the comic graphic novel square taken care of because I read Y The Last Man by Brian K. Vaughan. However, that still leaves me with a middle grade novel and a debut novel to go.     I'm trying to be hopeful but, because of time restraints it's been hard. It's only Friday night though and I'm on page 167 of Lord of the Flies and my kindle says I have 7 hours and 30 minutes left in Carrie. Yes I have started reading them both at the same time because , this has became more difficult than I thought it would be and I really don't want to fail the first Readathon I participate in. Hopefully, I will have everything read by sometime Sunday.     In blog news, I have a surprise for the blog that I may be able to announce sometime this weekend. I also plan to write reviews for The Lord of The Flies and Carrie as soon

Banned Books Week Book Review : Y The Last Man Vol. 1

Writer : Brian K. Vaughan     Artist: Pia Guerra          Genre: Graphic Novel           Pages: 256           Rating : 4 stars              Synopsis: In 2002 the world changes forever. Every man, every boy, every mammal with a Y chromosome collapses and dies, With the loss of more than half of the planets population, the gears of society grind to a halt, and a world of women are left to pick up the pieces and try to keep civilization from completely collapsing.     The "gendercide" however, is not absolutely complete. For some unknown reason, one young man named Yorick Brown and his pet male monkey, Ampersand, are spared. Overnight, this anonymous 20 something becomes the most important person on the planet- the key, it is hoped, to unlocking the secret of this mysterious sex-specific plague.     My thoughts on the book: I really liked this first volume. I thought it done a good job of setting up the story which seems like it's going to be real

Banned Books Readathon

In an effort to get my book blog more known I have decided to participate in the Banned Books Readathon this year. The Banned Books Week page on twitter is doing their stuff as a Banned Books Bingo game. I have been looking forward to this and I think it's going to be fun!    It's probably going to be hard to bingo but, I do have a plan for myself that I think could be doable. What I'm going to do is start with the comic/graphic novel block and work my way down that row. So that means I have to read one banned or challenged comic, one banned or challenged middle grade book, and one banned or challenged debut novel.          My TBR list for the game 1. Comic: Y The Last Man by Brian K. Vaughn (started it today) 2. Middle Grade Book: Lord of The Flies by William Holding 3. Debut Novel : Carrie by Stephen King       To bingo I have to read a total of 802 pages which will be hard but hopefully doable. I will review the books and update you guys on my progress as

Book Review: The Troop

Title: The Troop            Author: Nick Cutter                     Pages: 511                    Genre: Horror                     Rating : 5 stars       Synopsis: Once a year Scoutmaster Tim Riggs leads a troop of boy scouts into the Canadian wilderness for a weekend camping trip. It's a tradition that's as comforting and reliable as a good ghost story around a roaring bonfire. But when an unexpected intruder stumbles upon their campsite- shockingly thin, disturbingly pale, and voraciously hungry- Tim and the boys are exposed to something far  more frightening than any tale of terror . A horror that spreads faster than fear. A harrowing struggle for survival with no escape from the elements, the infected, or each other.     My thoughts on the book: I absolutely loved it ! I may have found a new favorite author and I for sure want to check out more of Nick Cutters books. It's been a fe

Book Review: The Tattooist of Aushwitz

Author: Heather Morris Pages: 262 Genre: Nonfiction Rating: 3 stars      Thoughts on the book: I thought it told a good but tragic story. One of the books weak points though is that it could use better character development. If the story had more character development this could be a 5 star book.       I'm happy that both Gita and Kale survived the whole thing . I thought the concentration camps were vividly depicted. I found a lot of that to be pretty disturbing.       Overall, the story that Heather wrote wasn't bad. I'm giving it 3 stars. I find that a bit disappointing because it could have been a 5 star story if it had better character development.
