My Bookish Life: May Reading Wrap Up

Hello everybody! It's the last day of May so I thought I would go ahead and post my Reading Wrap Up for the month. I think I done pretty decently,  there was only one book on my TBR list that I didn't get to. So let's get started with the breakdown.      The first book I finished this month was  Def Leppard by Willy McGilly. I didn't like this book really.  It seemed like it was a cash grab and some of the facts weren't accurate.         Genre: Biography       Pages: 32       Rating: 1 star      After that I read Wizard and Glass : The Dark Tower IV by Stephen King. I loved this one! It's really dense with amazing world building! It took a long time to reread it but it was well worth it !  Genre: Western, Romance, Fantasy, Horror  Pages: 699 Rating: 5 stars      The third book I finished this month was Scoop The Poop: Pick Your Battles by Meredith Masony. I absolutely love Meredith ! She is one of my favorite interne

My Bookish Life Book Review: Titanic A Very Peculiar History

Title: Titanic A Very Peculiar History  Author: Jim Pipe Genre: Non-fiction Pages: 121 Rating: 3.5 stars Synopsis: From what escaping passengers tried to take to whether we'll ever succeed in raising the wreck, this Very Peculiar History commemorates the Titanic . It delves into the human stories of this tragedy , along with the background on the ships incredible engineering and design.   Thoughts on this book: Ok I do wish I could have got hold of vcd a physical copy because there is stuff in it that was not in my Kindle edition. Other than that though I did like the book and think it was ok. It did keep my attention for one.      I like the fact that I learned a few things I didn't know about the Titanic.  For example I didn't know that some passengers thought it was possibly an explosion that actually caused the ship to sink and not the actual iceberg.  I also learned a fact I didn't know about the Titanic movie that stars Leonardo DiCaprio and that's

My Bookish Life Book Review: Scoop The Poop

Title: Scoop The Poop   Author: Meredith  Masony  Genre: Non-fiction Pages : 161 Rating: 4 stars Synopsis: I woke up this morning in a zombie state. I struggled to get the kids off to school. I talked myself into getting ready for work. I packed lunches, checked back packs, planned crock pot meals, and wished to be somewhere else. Yes , that's right. I wished I was somewhere other than my kitchen listening to my children fight over the last pack of fruit snacks. I dreamt about a life that was less stressful and more enjoyable. These thoughts made me cry on the way to drop off my kids at school. These thoughts made me feel like I was a terrible person. These thoughts made me feel like I was the worst Mother on the planet.      I was ashamed to have these thoughts. I felt like I was failing at life. I was overworked, under appreciated and dreaming of wanting more. Why wasn't I happy? Life seemed to be a chronic shit storm and I was the imbecilic meteorologist who forg

My Bookish Life Book Review: Wizard and Glass

Over the course of one long magical night, Roland transports us to the Mid-World of long ago and a seaside town named Hambry, where Roland fell in love with a girl named Susan Delgado, and where he and his old ka-tet mates Alain and Cuthbert battled the forces of John Farson, the harrier who- with a little help from a seeing sphere called Maerlyn's Grapefruit- i

My Bookish Life Book Review: Def Leppard

Title: Def Leppard   Author: Willy McGilly Genre: Biography     Pages: 32 Rating: 1 star Synopsis: Def Leppard's rise to platinum status rock super-stars may have appeared to be the classic over-night rags-to-riches fairy tale but in fact is the result of six years solid graft and rugged determination.        In this book author Willy McGilly traces the band's emergence from their hometown of Sheffield,  deep in the heart of industrial England,  on the crest of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal to their jet-set lifestyle of today ; from their earliest recording of the now legendary 'Getcha Rocks Off' EP to the multi-million smash hit album,  'Pyromania'. My thoughts in the book: I'm going to be honest I hated it. For one thing it couldn't keep my attention and I found it boring. Also if you look things up you can find out that some of the "facts" in this weren't exactly true.      I think that the author could have written a b

Book 2: If It Bleeds by Stephen King Why I bought the book: In case you can't tell by looking at my blog Stephen King is my favorite author and so when he comes out with a new book of course I have to get it. I k

Hello everybody! While I'm doing my laundry I thought I would go ahead and post a new segment that I  want to do. I think it will be once a month and what I want to do is try making food from books (not cook books) . After that I make a post about it and give you guys the recipe and review how it turned out.         So with all that being said over the weekend I made the first recipe . I am reading the book Wizard and Glass by Stephen King which part of The Dark Tower series and I found a recipe for Gunslinger burritos from the Dark Tower series. So I decided that was going to be the first book recipe I tried.      Ingredients: 8 ounces venison,  backstrap, or other lean game meat. You can substitute this. I just used a steak. 19 pinches (1 tsp salt) 1 tbsp lard or other animal fat 1/4 cup wild onion or two green onions 1 tsp wild garlic or 1 clove regular garlic minced 1 cup porcini or chanterelle mushrooms 2 large collard green leaves, stems removed. My Bookish Life Book Review: Along Came A Spider

Title: Along Came A Spider Author: James Patterson Pages: 502 Genre: Fiction  Rating: 3.5        Synopsis: A missing little girl named Maggie Rose  ... A family brutally murdered in the projects of Washington,  D.C. ... the thrill killing of an elementary school teacher ... A psychotic serial kidnapper/murderer who is so terrifying that even the FBI, Secret Service, and the police can't outsmart him- even after he has been captured .     My thoughts on the book: I thought it was alright.  Some parts were really intense which I liked. It could be a little scary at some points too.        Gary Murphy/Soneji is one the creepiest book characters I have read about recently.  The twist with him is very interesting and I didn't see that one coming.  He is certainly a crazy frightening character.          I also liked Alex Cross. He seemed pretty realistically written to me. It does seem like he could make an interesting character to do a series about.         One of the fa
