My Bookish Life Book Review: Paper Towns

Title: Paper Towns Author: John Green Genre: YA.               Pages: 305 Rating: 2.5 stars       Synopsis: Who is the real Margo? Quentin Jacobsen has spent a lifetime loving the magnificently adventurous Margo Roth Spiegelman from afar. So when she cracks open a window and climbs into his life- dressed like a ninja and summoning him for an ingenious campaign of revenge- he follows.  After their all-nighter ends, and a new day breaks, Q arrives at school to discover that Margo, always an enigma,  has now became a mystery. But Q soon learns that there are clues- and they are for him. Urged down a disconnected path, the closer he gets, the less Q sees the girl he thought he knew.      My thoughts on the book: I didn't particularly like it that much. The first chapter was fun but, then Margo does something that I think was selfish and I couldn't get over that because it impacts the story greatly.  Plus, in the story Q always refers to her as Margo Roth Spiegelman whic

My Bookish Life: The Bookie Trials Coraline Review

Title: Coraline           Author: Neil Gaiman  Genre: Graphic Novel   Pages: 193 Rating : 2 stars Bookie Trials Challenge It Completes: The calligraphy challenge for the Scribes     Synopsis: When Coraline steps through a door to find another house strangely similar to her own (only better), things seem marvelous.       But there's another mother there, and another father, and they want her to stay and be there little girl. They want to change her and never let her go.      Coraline will have to fight with all her wit and courage if she is to save herself and return to her ordinary life .       My thoughts on the book: While I liked the movie and I like Neil Gaiman as a writer for some reason this book didn't really grab. I can't explain why it just didn't.  I don't quite understand why either.          The premises of the story is very interesting though. A little girl stumbles into another world that is just like hers except better at first glance at l

My Bookish Life: The Bookie Trials Saga Review

Title:Saga Author: Brian K. Vaughan Genre : Graphic Novel Pages: 188 Rating: 5 stars Bookie Trial Challenge It Completes: Book Binding for Scribes. Summary: When two soldiers from opposite sides of a never ending galactic war fall in love , they risk everything to bring a fragile new life into a dangerous old universe.  From bestselling writer Brian K. Vaughan,  Saga is the sweeping tale of one young family fighting to find their place in the world. Fantasy and science fiction are wed like never before in this sexy, subversive,  drama for adults  . My thoughts on the book: This was a reread for me. I read it again because it's  the only book I could think of that would complete the Book Binding challenge that wasn't extremely long. That being said I love the Saga series!       The world the series is set in is very strange and vivid and that's part of why I love the series. I also love the characters! They are so relatable! Marko is probably one of my all time f

My Bookish Life: The Bookie Trials

Hello readers! I have decided I want to participate in The Bookie Trials this weekend.  I have heard a good bit about it but, I just found out it's starting up this weekend. I will leave a link to a YouTube video below where you can find out more about The Bookie Trials.    I got put on the Scribe team so I have to do their challenges and earn their badges.  My TBR list for this challenge is as follows:  1. Bookbinding: Contains a book within a book: For that I picked Saga by Brian K. Vaughn  There is a fictional book called A Nighttime Smoke mentioned a good bit in this series so I figure that should count for this challenge.  2. Read a book with calligraphy on the cover. I had a hard time finding a book with calligraphy on the cover but, I hope Coraline counts because I think it's pretty close. I love Neil Gaiman he is one of my favorite writers and while I have seen this movie I haven't read the book.  3. Read an underrated/not talked about

My Bookish Life Book Review: Def Leppard

Title: Def Leppard Arena Rock Band Author: Laura S. Jeffery Genre: biography Pages: 104 Rating: 3 stars Synopsis: For these England natives, Hello America was an appropriate song ; telling about a young boy who wanted to visit America. In the early 1980s, Def Leppard got their wish. Read about Def Leppard's history from how they started to various tragedies that would change the band forever. Current members Rick Savage, Joe Elliot, Rick Allen , Phil Collen, and Vivian Campbell still know how to rock! My Review: The book was ok for what it was. I like wild rock stories and while Def Leppard has some there wasn't any in this book. I can't hold that against the book though because the book is for younger readers and I didn't know that it was when I put it on hold at the library.     While I feel it focuses heavily on the car accident that took drummer Rick Allen's arm, it does do decently at telling the very basic history of the band. It covers a good bit

Ok so I drew Paper Towns by John Green. I don't know a lot about it but I bought the book because I have read Looking For Alaska and I thought it was pretty good. Hopefully I will like this one! That means my whole TBR looks like this:      Hopefully I will actually be able to finish this one! My TBR list has been kicking my butt every month. My plan is as follows. 1st. I've been really wanting to continue my Dark Tower reread so I started reading The Wastelands: The Dark Tower 3 last night. This book is one of my favorites in the series. I love Blaine The Pain! 2nd. Def Leopard by Laura S. Jeffery. It's a library book so I have to get to it pretty soon . Plus, it's part of the spotlight I'm doing that's focusing on bands I'm hopefully going to ge

I thought this book could have been better. I have a feeling the author was trying to
