My Bookish Life Book Reviews and Reading Updates

Hello and how are you guys? I hope you all are having a good afternoon. I have had a pretty calm Sunday myself! We all stayed at home which was peaceful!

So I have a few reading updates for you guys and more than one book review this time! I hope you guys enjoy reading this article because it is going to be a pretty long one. With that being said, let's get started!

Title: The Nightmare Before Christmas : The Battle For Pumpkin King
Author: Dan Conner
Genre: Manga
Pages: 128
Rating: 3 stars

Synopsis: Years ago, Jack and Oogie Boogie were close friends. Both eager to prove themselves, they poured all of their passion into their fantastical projects to earn their rightful place as the scariest duo in town! But there could only be one Pumpkin King! What could have turned to such great friends into bitter rivals?

My thoughts on the book: This book was ok . It's illustrations are really good and the story is decent. It was nice to be reading a manga again because it's been a minute since I have read a manga.

If you are a fan of The Nightmare Before Christmas movie you might want to read this because it is a prequel. This takes place before the movie and you follow both Jack and Oogie on their quest to become Pumpkin King. If you have seen the movie you may know the outcome but it's still a good story overall.

I have to say I also like the colors they used in this manga. It made the book very beautiful! I read the whole book in about to settings!

Reading Update #1

I DNFed Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingslover. I got over 100 pages into the book before I gave up so I gave it a fair chance but I just couldn't get into it at all. I hated that too because it was picked for my book club. If you like stories kind of like Huckle Berry Finn you might like this one but I really don't like stuff like that. When I was over 100 pages in and it just kept going and I wasn't into it I just couldn't keep going.

Book Review 2:

Title: The Last Patriot
Author: Brad Thor
Genre: Thriller
Pages:352
Rating: 4 stars

Synopsis: June 632 A.D.: Deep within the Uranah Valley of Mount Arafat in Mecca, the prophet Mohammed shares with his closest companions a final and startling revelation. Within days he is assassinated.

September 1789: U.S. Minister to France Thomas Jefferson, charged with forging a truce with the violent Muslim pirates of the Barbary coast, makes a shocking discovery- one that could forever impact the world's relationship with Islam.

Present Day: When a car bomb explodes outside a Parisian cafe Navy Seal turned Homeland Security Operative Scot Harvath is thrust back into a life he desperately tried to escape.

Saving the intended victim of the attack, Harvath becomes party to an amazing and perilous race to uncover a secret so powerful that militant Islam could be defeated once and for all without firing another shot, dropping another bomb, or launching another covert action. But there are powerful men who are determined that Mohammed's mysterious final revelation to continue to remain hidden forever.

My thoughts on the book: I found parts of this book to be very interesting. Before reading this book I didn't know anything about the Barbary Wars. That was one of the true pieces of history in this book and I found it interesting so I ended up also watching documentaries about the Barbary Wars because of reading this book. I also want to look more into Thomas Jefferson!

While the plot is some what outlandish the story is intriguing so it did hold my interest. Basically there is a race going on to find a hidden Mohammed revelation. The race gets tense and things do get very interesting.

I like the character development for our main character, Scot Harvath, in this book. I think it's good that he is still with Tracey. I like those two together, they make a good couple.

Because of the intrigue it gave me I am giving this book 4 stars! If you want to read some interesting history you might like this book! I would for sure recommend giving this book a read!

Update Number 2: I have opened up my own shop on Pango! Some of the books I read for this blog will end up going up for sale on my Pango. Here is the link to my book store if you want to check it out: Browse books from thialamathis. (pangobooks.com) .

That's it for this blog update! I finished The Twelve Topsy Turvey, Very Messy Days of Christmas by James Patterson earlier today and I will try to post a review for it tomorrow. I have now started reading The Final Girls Support Group by Grady Hendrix and I don't think it's going to take me that long to finish it. If you like my content please give my blog a like, follow, and share that's it for now I will talk to you all again later!
