My Bookish Life Book Review: Bad Reputation an unauthorized biography of Joan Jett

Title: Bad Reputation The Unauthorized Biography of Joan Jett
Author: Dave Thompson
Genre: Biography
Pages: 259
Rating: 3 stars

Synopsis: Bad Reputation is the unexpurgated story 1980s rocker Joan Jett. One of the best selling acts of the age , and one of punk rocks most valued elder statespeeps . Through it's pages , a welter of exclusive interviews and observations paint what might well be the last great tale of rock hedonism , but one that comes with a twist to it's tail. The rockers are women, the groupies are guys . It could have been the plot line for a movie or even a sitcom, but the Runaways, Jett's first band made it happen and Jett made it last. The first serious female rocker of the 1980s, Jett became the template everybody followed. But unlike so many of her peers and counter parts, she never lost her credibility, never sold out, never gave up. And she has backed her reputation up with genuine star power , following the chart-topping "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" one of the most played 80s anthems of all time with "Crimson and Clover," "Do You Wanna Touch Me," and "I Hate Myself For Loving You" before the decade ended. And while the 1990s saw Jett purposely step away from the spotlight, she remained, and remains, America's number one Queen of Noise.

My Review: I hate to say this but while this was one of the books I was looking forward to reading, I'm a bit disappointed. The synopsis is right and she is one of the first serious female rock stars and because of that I wish this biography wasn't as skimpy as I feel it is. I think considering who it's about it could have been a much more interesting biography if it was better written.

It seems pretty clear to me that the writer of this book wrote it because there was a movie about The Runaways coming out at the time. I think if he was a fan he would have wanted to do her story justice and wouldn't have just skimmed and grazed through things like this book does.  That being said I did learn a few things I didn't know about Joan and that's what stops this from being a 2 star book and why I'm giving it 3 stars.

That's it for this update . If you have read this book leave your thoughts in the comments. Also if you like my content please feel free to give my blog a follow. Goodbye for now, I will be back with my Febuary reading wrap up soon (most likely tomorrow) I hope you all have a nice night!
