My Bookish Life Book Review: This Is Going To Hurt: Music , Photography , and Life Through The Distorted Lens of Nikki Sixx

Title: This Is Going To Hurt: Music, Photography,  and Life Through The Distorted Lens of Nikki Sixx
Author: Nikki Sixx
Genre: Art, Biography,  Photography,  Self Help (maybe)
Pages: 2233
Rating: 3.5 or 4 stars

Summary: This Is Gonna Hurt is music, photography and life through the distorted lens of Nikki Sixx, bassist for heavy metal band Motley Crue and the New York Times bestselling author of The Heroin Diaries.  A combination of powerful prose and dramatic photographs,  This Is Going To Hurt is an arresting,  deeply personal look through the eyes of a real rock star at a stark , post-addiction world.

My thoughts on the book: This is another book I read to highlight the musicians involved with the concert I'm being optimistic that I'm still going to get to go see this August.  Even though I can only give it a 3.5 or a 4 this was an interesting read. I would say that it actually blended a few different genres.

First off it's somewhat of a biography. While it's  not as biographical as The Heroin Diaries  in this book Nikki Sixx still tells you enough about who he is and where he is coming from that I think it counts as a biography.  However,  that is only one part of this book.

If you are the creative artsy type you may like this book because it could also be considered an art book. It's full of photography , music lyrics, and some artful writing that was all done by Nikki. Plus, Nikki talks a good amount about his creative process and what art is to him and what it's done for him.

A third genre you could put this book in is self help I think.  He tells about his past with addiction and also how he struggled to make his dreams happen.  Then he also tells you about the mindset he has kept to  him beat his addiction and the mindset he was in that made his dreams achievable.  He does this like he is giving advice to the read. Since he is Nikki Sixx this is odd but some of it is really good life advice.

For those reasons I think I actually have to give the book 4 stars. It was an interesting  read. As a creative person myself I liked it. Plus, Nikki gave some decently good life advice in the book.

That's it for this update.  I have started reading Along Came A Spider by James Patterson.  A review will be up as soon as I finish it. If you have read the book leave your thoughts in the comments. Also, if you like my content please follow my blog. That's it for now I hope you all have a nice night!
