My Bookish Life Book Review: The First Commandment

Hello and how are you all doing today? I hope all of you are having a good day. My day has been pretty good! I have mostly been resting before the busy week starts back up. So, it's been a pretty good day !

Now, the day is almost over, and I still want to work on my blog some before I go to bed. I have actually been done reading this book for a week or so now. So yeah, it's about time I get this review up! Plus, I have to post my fall TBR soon! So, without farther delay let's do this review!

Title: The First Commandment (Scot Harvath #6)
Author: Brad Thor
Genre: Thriller
Pages: 416
Rating: 3 stars

Synopsis: Covert counterterrorism agent Scot Harvath awakens to find a sadistic assassin with a personal vendetta who unleashes hoors on the people close to him. Ordered by the president to stay out of the investigation, Harvath mounts his own operation to uncover the conspiracy and enact revenge. When he discovers the connections between the attacks and a group of men secretly released from Guantanamo, Harvath must ask himself previously unthinkable questions about the organizations and the nation he has spent his life serving.

My thoughts on the book: This book is ok. It's not one of the best books in this series but, it's not bad. It's kind of in-between.

This story picks up right after the story in Takedown. Even though you can read all of these books as standalones I really would recommend the reader to read Takedown before they read this one. Normally, it wouldn't matter but a character and something that happens to them in Takedown is a big part of The First Commandments story.

Harvath is a bit more serious in this book. So, some of his sense of humor that I like is toned down in this book. It completely makes sense though because without spoiling things I will say that the events at the end of Takedown left Harvath in a really bad mood and you could kind of say in a bad place mentally.

I have to say there are some pretty messed up things that happen in this book. I would say out of all the Scot Harvath books I 've read this one has some of the series darkest moments. It gets really messed up!

This book also has a different feel to it than the others did but, I liked that it was refreshing. What made it feel different from the others to me is because in this book the terrorist is targeting Harvath specifically. For me that just gave it a bit of a different feel.

I liked the book and while it's not one of the best books in the series, I'm still going to give it 3 stars! It's pacing is pretty good, and the story also isn't bad. If you like military stories I would highly recommend this series.

That's it for now. If you happen to like my content please give my blog a follow. Also, if you have read this book please leave your thoughts in the comments. That's it for now. Goodbye for now!
