My Bookish Life Book Review: Surviving The Evacuation: London Book 1

Title: Surviving The Evacuation: London Book 1
Author: Frank Tayell
Genre: Horror
Pages: 191
Rating : 2 stars

Synopsis: The outbreak began in New York. Soon the virus had spread throughout the world. People were attacked , infected, and they died. Then they came back. Nowhere is safe from the undead.

As anarchy and civil war took grip accross the globe, Britain was quarantined. The press was nationalised; martial law, curfew, and rationing where implemented. It wasn't enough, Bill Wright broke his leg on the day of the outbreak. Unable to join the evacuation, he watched from his window as the streets filled with refugees. He watched as the streets emptied. He watched as they filled up again , this time with the undead.

He's trapped. He's alone . He's running out of food and water. To reach the safety of the enclaves, he will have to venture out into the wasteland that once was England. On that journey he will ultimately discover the horrific truth about the outbreak, a decades old conspiracy, and his unwitting part in it.

This is the first volume of his journal.

My thoughts on the book: This book was just so so for me . It was ok but also a bit dull. I think adding more action would have made it a better book. I both do and don't like that it was a quick read. I liked that it was a quick and easy read but, in this case I think that that also may have destroyed some character and story development.

I didn't care to much about what happened to the main character. Since this is a zombie story that's not a good thing because that killed some of the suspense/horror elements. There was a few interesting developments with his character towards the end but, that was it. I also didn't like how the main character was practically the only character in the book.

All of this is the reason why I can only give the book 2 stars. When it comes to zombie stories I want to care about what happens to the characters and with this one I just didn't care. With this type of story if you care about the characters it adds to the suspense and horror and makes you happy when they have victories . However, if you don't care about the characters it can be really bland because you want care if they get bit or if they do or don't find food. The story just becomes bland and this one kinda was like that for me.

While that is it for the review portion of this blog I want to discuss some general blog Ideas before this update is over that I talked about in my previous post.

          General blog Ideas:
1. I'm going to be updating my TBR jar next month. If you have a book you would like for me to read and review please leave the title and author in the comments on this post.

2. I want to participate in a reading challenge next year for the blog. I know of a few but please leave suggestions in the comments and I will do a drawing next month like I do from my TBR jar.

That's it for this update. If you like what you have read please give my blog a follow. I hope you all have a nice night. Talk to you all later.
