My Bookish Life: Please Support Your Local Library

Hello everybody! How are all of you? I hope you are having a good day. Mine has been ok. I'm mainly making a post because I wanted to take a minute to talk about a subject that's important to me . That is supporting local libraries.

Since, most libraries were hit hard by Covid I thought I would share some ways we could all support them as they reopen. Libraries help boost a communities literacy rate and provide important services to their communities . So, lets share some ideas about how to support them as they reopen.

#1  I think this one is pretty simple, the best way to support your local library is to use their services. Most libraries are atleast open for curb side service right now . You can use their services by going to your local libraries website and placing a hold on a book . Even if the book you are looking for isn't owned by your local library chances are another library within your state can ship it to your library free of charge . Then they will notify you when your books are there .  Besides physical books most libraries also let you use your library card to check out free ebooks on websites like Overdrive and Libby. If you don't want to check out a book most libraries also carry movies and cds.

I mention simply checking stuff out as a way to support your local library because from how I understand things, the more a library is used the more likely it is to get better funding. I've read stories where libraries have had to close down  because they got defunded due to lack of use. So, simply using the library is one way to support them.

2#  Attend some of their programs when they fully open back up! I know my local library offers story times for little kids , science type classes for kids , craft classes for all ages, family movie nights, lego day for kids , computer classes, and classes that teach you how to get a job . Besides all of that they also host special events like book signings, concerts, conventions, etc . Plus, they offer free tax services during tax season  and free internet and computer usage everyday. Attending their programs and using all of their services supports the library the same way checking stuff out does . The more a library is used the more funding it will likely get .

3# Go to your local Friends of The Library book sale when they start having them again. This one is a win win for both you and the library. You get really good prices on good books and all the money raised at the sale goes to the library.  You can usually find like new books at the book sale for very cheap prices.  One time I bought close to a whole car trunk full of books that were in like new condition for 10 dollars. !

4# Join The Friends of The Library! This is a group of people that does things like put together the book sales to support the library. You can join through your local library.

5# Donate. If you want to donate money you can but, it doesn't have to be money . You can also donate books for them to either use or put into their book sale . If your local library offers crafting classes chances are they will also except donations of art supplies.  Really anything like that helps!

Those are the main ways I can think of to support local libraries . If you have anymore ideas please leave them in the comment section. Also, if you like my content please follow my blog. That's it for now! I will be back soon with more book reviews! I hope you all have a good afternoon and I will talk to you all later.
