My Bookish Life: Summer Reading Challenges From Your Local Library

Hello friends! I hope you all are having a good day . I know I have been having a pretty good one myself. My kiddo just got done swimming in the pool and I was tanning while I watched him. We had fun!

Now I want to take a minute to talk about the Summer Reading Challenges happening at your local library. These are fun for the whole family because they have activities for all ages. It's still pretty much all virtual this year but that's better than not having one at all.

I don't know if all libraries have the same theme for their Summer Reading Challenge so I will say that the theme of the challenge at my local library is Tails and Tales. So the main focus is on stories with animals in them but, you can read whatever you want and it still counts for the challenge. It runs until the end of June and I have registered both my son and myself.

You can register in person at your local library . When you register you tell them if you want to log your reading online through their app or in a paper log . When you do this they will give you free things like bookmarks and stickers.

The children's Summer Reading Challenge is for kids aged birth-5th grade . The challenge is that they have to read or be read to for a total of 7 hours. The books can be about anything but, I have chosen to stick with the animal them for my 2 year old.

As far as activities for the children, they do things like have virtual craft classes and story times . They have also already done a virtual tour of the Georgia aquarium. Dorian and I had fun doing that one together!

They have a Summer Reading Challenge but, I'm honestly not to familiar with that part of the program. I think for their challenge they have to read for 11 hours and write one book review. They also do virtual craft classes and play games.

Participants in the adult challenge have to read for 11 hours and write one book review. They also have virtual craft classes for the adults . So far we have learned how to make frozen dog treats!

The challenge ends June 30th . Everyone who completes the challenge gets a certificate and they get entered into drawings to win prizes like 100 dollar gift cards for example . I don't know if we will get to have a party at the end of the program this year or if we will just pick up or prizes at the library.

In case you are curious here are the books kiddo and I have read for the reading challenge so far!
