My Bookish Life Book Review: Horrorstor

Hello and how are you all doing this evening? I hope you all are having a good day . I had the day off and it was a pretty good day. My husband and I went out to eat and did some Christmas shopping for the kiddo. Then when we got home I had popcorn and watched the first episode in the new Chucky tv series. So yeah it was a nice day!

Now I want to work on my blog some though . I hope this review comes out good because I have a few different feelings about this book. So with that being said lets get to talking books.

Title: Horrorstor
Author: Grady Hendrix
Genre: Horror
Pages: 243
Rating: 3 stars

Synopsis: Something strange is happening at the Orsk furniture super store in Cleveland, Ohio. Every morning employees arrive to find broken Kjerring bookshelves, shattered Glans water goblets and smashed Liripipe wardrobes. Sales are down, security cameras reveal nothing, and store managers are panicking.

To unravel the mystery, three employees volunteer to work a from dusk to dawn shift . In the dead of night, they'll patrol the empty showroom floor, and investigate strange sights and sounds . They encounter horrors that defy the imagination!

My thoughts on the book: Ok where do I start with this one because it is a bit of a mixed bag. So the story wasn't bad but, it wasn't one of the best either just somewhere in-between which did disappoint me a little because I had been wanting to read this one for awhile. I guess there are a few reasons why I had that reaction .

So lets go over the things I liked first. I liked the style of the story and some of the humor it also had despite being horror. If you like the Chucky ( I guess I'm also thinking of this because I watched the series) movies you might like the style and humor in this because it's about a haunted store but it's that type of horror store. I like that type of thing so I didn't really think that part was bad and I kinda liked that.

I also found the humor and some of the characters to be really relatable. That helped the story a good bit too. If you have ever worked retail you might like the humor in this!

The back story of why the place is haunted is ok for what it is but, I think it could have been developed a little bit better. That was all really really strange and it was a mix of good strange and bad strange. The Warden is really really psycho!

Now to talk about some things in the book I absolutely didn't like. For one did the store transform and did they go into other dimensions or time periods ? It wasn't very clear what was happening there. Or maybe the store did both transform and go into other time periods?

I also didn't like how some characters , like Ruth Anne, just changed out of nowhere . There wasn't any development that could of lead Ruth Anne toward change she kinda just turned all of a sudden. Mostly, the character development isn't  that bad though.

I absolutely didn't like how open ended the end of the book was with some characters though. That made me mad  and lowered the books rating a little bit. I just did not like that at all because I want to know what happened but, you don't find that out. It made the end of the book unsatisfying !

Overall , I still give the book 3 stars. The book has it's flaws but, that just makes it not good or bad just kinda in between. I still want to read more of Grady's books and who knows maybe Mr. Hendrix will write a sequel and fix that ending. I kind of doubt that though.

That's it for this reading update. I have almost finished reading Preacher so a review for the next volume will be up in a day or two something like that. If you have read Horrorstor please leave your thoughts in the comments so we can discuss! Also, if you happen to like my content please give my blog a follow. That's it for now . I hope you all have a good night and I will talk to you all again later . Goodbye for now !
