My Bookish Life Book Review : Apt Pupil

Hello and how are you guys? I hope you have all been doing good. I've been ok recently. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow that I'm really nervous about. I'm probably going to have to do an MRI because I'm worried, I've broke my neck. I'm scared of what the doctors are going to say honestly.

For now, though, I'm chilling out and having some coffee and I want to work on my blog some. I've been meaning to make this post for a while now because I actually finished reading Apt Pupil a few weeks ago but life has been so crazy I'm just now getting time to write this review. So, let's get started! I hope you enjoy the review.

First off, I was reading Apt Pupil to complete part of my reading challenge I got myself for my birthday so let's see what my reward was for completing this part of the challenge.

The prompt was:

Read A Novella

My reward was:

It's a cute little bookmark! It's adorable! I like it!

Now let's get to the review!

Title: Apt Pupil
Author: Stephen King
Genre: Horror (for sure)
Pages: 179
Rating: 4 stars

Synopsis: Todd Bowdin is an Apt Pupil. Good grades, good family, a paper route. But he is about to meet a different kind of teacher: Mr. Dussander. Todd knows all about Dussander's dark past. The torture, the death. The decades-old man hunt Dussander has escaped until this day. Yet Todd doesn't want to turn him in. Todd wants to know more. Much more. He is about to learn the meaning of real power- and the seductive lure of evil.

My thoughts on the book: Ok so way to go Mr. King for writing a horror story that has actually disturbed me. It's been years since I've actually been disturbed by a horror story! I think this story will stay with me for a long time to come because it's just unnerving.

I think part of it is because this story for sure deals with human horror. It's not fantastical and the monsters are humans. I think the realism is part of what makes it unsettling.

Following Todd through his journey in this story and seeing a good kid being tainted in such away is also just disturbing. Mr. Dussander isn't completely to blame though because Todd made some of those decisions himself. It's just really messed up.

I liked the character development in this story. Mr. King did a really good job of fleshing out his characters. For it to be such a short story the characters came a really long way in their development.

If you want to read a scary story that's actually going to disturb and disgust you and stay with you for who knows how long I would recommend this book! It's a short but well written story. I don't know if I'm going to be able to get it out of my head and that's why I'm giving it 4 stars! Well done Mr. King, you disgusted me!

That's it for this review, I hope you all enjoyed reading it. I will be back with a review of Path of The Assassin by Brad Thor. I've already started reading it and hopefully it want take me that much longer to finish it.

If you have read Apt Pupil, please leave your thoughts in the comments so we can talk about the book. Also, if you happen to like my content, please give my blog a follow. Goodbye for now I will talk to you all again soon!
