My Bookish Life Book Review: Little Heaven

Hello how have you guys been? I hope you all have been good. I know it's been a bit since I have talked to you all but, my work has been super crazy because of the holidays. So that's what's been happening there. I do hope to get a lot of work done on my blog soon though.

Now though, I have finally finished Little Heaven by Nick Cutter and I want to do a review on it . So, I'm doing that this morning. I have my coffee and I'm ready so lets do this!

Title: Little Heaven
Author: Nick Cutter
Genre: Horror/Sci-fi
Pages: 475
Rating: 3 stars

Synopsis: A trio of mismatched mercenaries is hired by a young woman for a deceptively simple task: check in on her nephew who may have been taken against his will to a backwoods New Mexico settlement called Little Heaven. Shortly after they arrive things turn ominous. Stirrings in the woods over the tree tops - the brooding shape of a monolith  known as the Black Rock casts a terrible pall. Paranoia and distrust grips the settlement. The escape routes are gradually cut off as events spiral towards complete madness. Hell - or the closest thing to it - invades Little Heaven. The remaining occupants are forced to take a stand and fight back but, whatever has cast it's dark eye on Little Heaven is marshaling it's powers and now it wants them all.

My thoughts on the book: So, this is the second book I have read by Nick Cutter. The first book I read by Nick Cutter is The Troop which I loved ! This book while it's ok , I didn't like it as much as I liked The Troop. It's not terrible though, The Troop was just really really good.

While this book is for sure horror I would also say that this book is heavy sci-fi too because, of what's in the woods around Little Heaven. It's one of the strangest creatures , so strange it's hard to imagine. It was very imaginative I will give Nick Cutter that.

I like some of the characters involved in the story . My two favorites are probably either Micah or Minerva . Micah is the main character of this story and he is one of the mercenaries hired to go to Little Heaven. I'm not going to lie that character is a badass but, that combined with the stories ending is why I like the character.

My second favorite character is probably Minerva . I didn't like her at first but, the more I found out about her, like what happened to her and her brother, the more I liked her. She might be one of my favorite female characters I've read this years.

While we are talking about characters , we have to talk about Amos Flesher . I don't want to say to much because of spoiling the story but, he is off his rocker crazy. Nick Cutter said in the letter after the story that Amos was a bit inspired by Jim Jones and you can tell for sure. If you know who Jim Jones was that's actually a huge spoiler about Amos's character but, that's the most perfect way to describe him.

The one thing I didn't like about the story , is that sometimes the different time lines confused me a bit. I wasn't massively confused it's just sometimes it would take a minute or two for me to figure out what time line we were following for that chapter. It would pull me out of the story a little bit but not massively so it lowered the books rating a little but not much.

I will say if you like the author Stephen King, then you should check out Nick Cutter. If you like Stephen King you would most likely like Nick Cutter. I have read a lot of horror and I think out of the authors I have read Nick is the only author that even comes close to being the horror story teller Stephen King is.

I give this book three stars because , it has really good characters and is an interesting read. However, it can be I guess you would say a heavy read it's almost 500 pages so if you plan to read it you should be prepared for that. As I stated previously, if you like Stephen King I would recommend Nick Cutter.

That's it for this reading update! If you have read this book please leave your thoughts in the comments. Also, if you happen to like my content please give my blog a follow! If everything goes according to planned I will be back later today with my December TBR and maybe another book review. That's it for now, I will talk to you guys latter.
